Challenging Housing Benefit Decisions
This course (also known as Housing Benefit: The Problem Areas) focuses on the more complicated areas of Housing Benefit and how to challenge decisions effectively.
Course objectives
By the end of the course participants will:

Be able to advise on the claims process including the evidence requirements;

Understand the rules;

Be aware of typical errors made by Housing Benefit decision makers when assessing claims which include a non-dependant;

Understand the most effective options for social landlord tenants affected by an under-occupancy reduction;

Understand the temporary absence and two homes rules for Housing Benefit;

Know when a Housing Benefit overpayment is non-recoverable;

Be able to challenge decisions effectively using supersessions, revisions and appeals;

Have access to advice regarding any course-related question for 12 months after the course.
Methods of delivery
This is a practical course. It is delivered using a combination of trainer presentation, group work and exercises, case studies, group discussion and games.
